Environment

ZUG has been actively involved in sustainable environmental protection for decades and is considered a pioneer in this field as well.

We can demonstrate ZUG's commitment to the environment with some impressive facts: We have been certified compliant with ISO 14001 for years. No other vendor in the industry has its production so close to the customer as V-ZUG in the heart of Switzerland. The leading partner of the Minergie association in Switzerland is V-ZUG. We received the "Eco Winner" award in the 2011 Most Trusted Brand study. A number of our appliances beat the strict energy-efficiency rules to such an extent that they can be specially labelled. The TopEco label also identifies the most energy-efficient appliances. Long before standby became a power-saving issue, the Adora dishwasher consumed all of 0 watts in this mode. And the Adora TSL WP heat pump dryer was recently named Europe's most energy-efficient dryer (in the Euro-TopTen study).

Sustainability and ecology are major issues for the new logistics centre - the flat roof is being covered with grass and solar cells are being built into the facade to generate electricity. Most of the power consumed by the materials-handling system is recuperated by regenerative motors and returned to the grid.

The four new high-bay warehouse stackers together weigh around 100 tons, roughly the same as a freight engine. 80% of the power required to drive these massive stackers is recuperated upon braking and fed back into the grid. The solar cells built into the logistic centre's glass generate electricity when the sun shines which is similarly fed into the grid.

When it comes to high-tech, we at ZUG always want to be first. When it comes to the environment, the same principle applies, only in green. Reducing the environmental impact of production and appliance use are two things that ZUG take very seriously. After all, we owe this much to both nature and our customers. So we make the most of every useful opportunity to act ecologically. Even though we've succeeded in reducing both energy and water consumption over the past few years, we are not by any means satisfied yet. Quite the contrary. Our success encourages us, and we're always on the lookout for even better solutions: we're happy to employ our own resources if that means we can spare natural resources.

Our commitment to quality also includes all aspects of sustainability. Not only do want to enhance our profits in the short run, we also aim to remain a healthy company in the long run. We are well aware of the importance of the resources provided to us by our people and nature. And not least, our customers should be certain that the products will keep them happy for a long time and they have access to a customer service that is worthy of the name.

Keywords like customer orientation and sustainability in the area of tension between economy, ecology and social responsibility are anchored in our corporate vision and will continue to act as a guideline for V-ZUG into the future.

In 1997, V-ZUG used the new international ISO 14001 standard as an opportunity to systematize its obligation to protect the environment. The ZUG environmental management programme was certified in accordance with this standard and integrated in the general business process. This means that environmental considerations form part of the comprehensive process-oriented quality management programme under ISO 9001. Every year, targets are set, measures planned, and their implementation tracked and evaluated. This leads to new goals being set and hence to constant improvements.

In July 2003, V-ZUG became one of the first companies in Switzerland to be awarded OHSAS 18001 certification. This entailed integrating health and safety at work into the existing quality and environmental management system.

Minergie is a quality brand that offers reliable information to investors, experts and consumers. At the same time, it represents a new benchmark and illustrates the value added in construction. Since the Minergie standards started to be introduced, ZUG has sought to take its cue from these values. For the company, this means minimizing the environmental impact of both production and resource consumption by the appliance. ZUG sets great store by both in the sense of comprehensive environmental protection. ZUG is the exclusive leading partner of MINERGIE Switzerland.

Reader's Digest has carried out its European Trusted Brands market survey nine times over. For the first time, the survey also covered the brands that enjoy the best reputation in terms of environmental impact. The greatest trust with regard to environmental protection/ecology in the household/kitchen appliances category is enjoyed by V-ZUG.

When you call the ZUG hotline on freephone 0800 850 850, you're automatically connected to the service centre nearest to you. There are a total of 16 ZUG service centres covering the whole of Switzerland. Customer proximity and careful route planning help to protect the environment as well.

V-ZUG has been taking back old household appliances for years to dispose of them properly, with re-usable materials recycled and hazardous materials disposed of using the very latest green technology. A compulsory prepaid disposal charge (vRG) has been levied on the selling price of household appliances throughout Switzerland since January 1, 2003. In return, the used household appliances can be taken to an official collection point or specialist retailer free of charge.

You can obtain further useful information on disposal from the Swiss Foundation for Waste Management (SENS). All V-ZUG appliances are covered by the SENS system, which explains why we are an active member collaborating closely with this professional, recognized organisation.
