Changes for refrigerators and freezers

The new energy-efficiency rating for refrigerators and freezers

New scale, new rating With the introduction of the new energy label in 2021, our single-door refrigerators with the lowest energy consumption, as well as some of our double-door appliances, achieved energy efficiency class C. The new scale was deliberately designed  so that the highest classes were scarcely occupied at its introduction, leaving room for future technological improvements.

The procedure for determining the energy rating for refrigerators and freezers is now more extensive. The type of appliance, its functional principle, the room temperature and the number and size of the storage compartments are now all taken into account. The other elements of the new energy label remain largely unchanged.

V-ZUG refrigerator with freezer compartment, energy efficiency class C, 146 kWh per year, 74-liter freezer compartment, and 208-liter refrigerator compartment.

The energy consumption is also stated in kWh as the annual consumption. The label also provides information on the total volume of all refrigeration and cold storage compartments and, where applicable, all freezer compartments, as well as the airborne sound emissions and the airborne sound emission class.

From 1 March 2024, the new minimum requirement for refrigerators and freezers will be efficiency class E.

1. QR code (if model is also sold in the EU) for further details about the appliance 2. Energy efficiency rating 3. annual energy consumption in kWh/year (measured under new standard conditions) 4. the sum of the volumes of the freezer compartments  5. the sum of the volumes of the cold storage compartments and the refrigerated compartments 6. Noise emissions, expressed in dB(A) re 1 pW, and noise emission rating
