A galvanizing plant known as Verzinkerei Zug was opened in 1913. Besides performing job orders, it manufactured galvanized tinware for home, farm and construction use. The company also played an important role in national defence at that time. At the beginning of the twenties, the galvanizing plant produced the first hand-operated drum washing machine, which made housework much easier. Right from the earlier days, the product range was constantly being extended and expanded. The Unica washing machine rounded out the classical Zug laundry room, consisting of washing machine, centrifuge and rinsing trough. Like all Swiss firms, V-ZUG was required to grow crops during the Second World War. The company joined with other Zug-based enterprises to cultivate a large potato field in the hills overlooking Zug. At the same time, the hard work went on in the factory. The development of the first electric washing machine was a technical breakthrough that helped to save huge amounts of both time and energy. The Tempo, the first small washing machine for household use, was rolled out in 1949, followed one year later by the first Unimatic for apartment blocks. Today, more than half a century later, the brand is still known for being both robust and durable. At the end of the fifties and start of the sixties, the existing range was rounded out with Adora washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers. In 1976, Metallwarenfabrik Zug, at that time a market leader in cookers and ovens, merged with Verzinkerei Zug. Production was consolidated at the present site. This turned the new company into a full-range supplier for the kitchen and laundry room, which soon started to make headlines under the new company name, V-ZUG, with future-looking pioneer work. In 1981, the company changed its name from Verzinkerei Zug Ltd. to V-ZUG Ltd. In order to reinforce and expand its leadership position, V-ZUG regularly rolled out innovations over the coming years that were characterised by cutting-edge technology and cutting-edge design, setting new standards. Time and again, the broad range for the kitchen and laundry room has caused a stir. Cooking has been revolutionised with world exclusives like the GourmetSteam programme and cooking sensors. Dishwashers featuring the SteamFinish function are the only ones to use pure steam to remove all rinse aid residues. Fabric care has also become simpler, gentler and more convenient thanks to innovative developments like Steam anti-crease. In its anniversary year, V-ZUG is rolling out a washing machine featuring heat pump technology and achieving a world record in terms of energy efficiency.
