Our sustainability strategy | V-ZUG Ltd.

Our sustainability strategy

We see sustainability as a holistic concept that encompasses our entire value chain on an ecological, social and entrepreneurial level. Responsible business is not just a passing fad for us; it’s something that shapes our decision-making and the work we do on a daily basis.

Our approach

Based on the materiality matrix, we have formulated four target visions that we aim to focus on in our pursuit of progress throughout the years ahead. From this, we have been able to derive over 20 goals that will help guide our actions. This will allow us to contribute to the global agenda set out by the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We will regularly provide transparent reports on our further progress and contributions.
  • Products and services for a future-fit society

Making an energy efficient appliance is one, very important, aspect of sustainability. There is much more to consider. From procurement, development, manufacture, service, re-use and recycling, throughout the full life cycle of the appliance, sustainability is more than a consideration for us, it is the goal. Measurable, definable, achievable.
  • Resilient and committed employees

A workforce that is cared for, cares about their work. The quality of our products are dependent upon our employees, therefore we involve them in the strategic direction of the business, foster an open, fair and safe work environment, encourage and facilitate lifelong learning and seek to promote from within.
  • Environment and climate protection

Through intensive research, measurement, analysis and investment, we have reduced and offset our carbon footprint, being carbon neutral in production since 2020.* Through an internal CO2 tax, future looking decarbonisation initiatives, life cycle assessement and reforestation programme, we continue to pursue true sustainability and provide a blueprint for others to follow.
  • Entrepreneurship for sustainable prosperity

We are committed to our Swiss home, investing over CHF 50 million a year in the local production infrastructure in the past three years. The pursuit of profit, our business partnerships and overall management is conducted ethically and sustainably, in line with our binding Code of Conduct.

Information concerning the measurable aspects of our activities can be found in the detailed report.

*V-ZUG has been carbon-neutral at all of its production sites since 2020 after introducing a range of measures to reduce emissions and compensate for its CO2 output through the “V-Forest” reforestation project (high-quality removal certificates). This includes direct emissions from Scope 1 (combustibles, fuels, etc.), indirect emissions from Scope 2 (the purchase of electricity and district heating), and business flights from Scope 3. These scopes are in alignment with the definitions laid out in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The term “carbon neutrality” corresponds to the definition laid out in the glossary published by the IPCC.

A key component of the climate strategy is the internal, voluntary CO2 incentive tax, which has been in force since 2018 (CHF 120 per ton of CO₂) on the scopes described above. The effect of this incentive tax is ongoing. Ambitious targets to reduce the remaining emissions have been in place since 2020. Measures are being taken on a continuous basis, and their status is reported annually.

Detailed information is available in the annual Climate Report.
