Robust and compact, this home in the town of Aireys Inlet, a few hours south of Melbourne, Australia, combines bushfire resilience and energy efficiency while minimising ecological disruption. Made from repurposed shipping containers, its T-shaped design frames breathtaking views, and nestles into the hillside.
The kitchen, with its robust materiality, is an extension of the natural green surroundings, drawing the gaze outward. Adding to the sense of immersion, the appliances – a CombiCookTop and CombairSteamer – dissolve into the space with their mirrored, pared-back design.
Tamsin O’Neill and Tom Bodycomb are the founders of independent Australian publisher Green Press, established in 2007. Partners in life and work, each publication helmed by the pair has a focus on sustainability.
