FAQ

    • Commissioning and operation

How much water is used in a dishwasher during a wash cycle compared to a hand wash?

When washing items by hand, around 40 litres of water must be heated up. With V-ZUG's best appliances, this figure is reduced by almost 90 %, with the Adora SL requiring just 5 litres of water.

    • Commissioning and operation

How much water does a dishwasher consume compared to doing the dishes by hand?

A dishwasher is such a valuable domestic helper that you can hardly imagine life without it. In recent years, dishwasher's water and energy consumption has been significantly reduced. This means that having an appliance clean the dishes is no longer just a time saver. Today, it is also much more economical and better for the environment than doing the dishes by hand. To clean the amount of dishes a ZUG Adora tackles in a single wash cycle, you would consume up to 40 litres of water, while the Adora manages with just 12.

    • Commissioning and operation

Do I still need to add salt to the dishwasher if I am using all-in-1 tabs?

Yes, absolutely! The salt is needed to regenerate the dishwasher's integrated softening unit. The softening unit descales the water that flows through the dishwasher. If the water is not descaled, limescale builds up on the integrated components in the dishwasher. The all-in-1 tabs only soften the water which enters the dishwasher when a programme is selected. This is only partly effective, as each tab contains only a limited amount of salt.

    • Commissioning and operation

Do I still need to add a rinse aid to the dishwasher if I am using all-in-1 tabs?

Yes, absolutely. For optimum cleaning and drying results, we always recommend adding rinse aid to the dishwasher. The amount of rinse aid in the tabs is not sufficient to achieve optimum drying results.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

What kind of design is recommended? Should I choose a framed hob or one that is flush with the worktop?

This is primarily an aesthetic question, but also depends on the kind of worktop you have. Flush hobs are mainly installed with stone worktops. However, make sure that the hob can be accessed from underneath the worktop.

    How does induction conserve energy?

Induction is the technology of the future: it is faster and more energy-efficient. One litre of water is brought to the boil in approximately two minutes. This is made possible by smart technology. Induction generates heat exactly where it is needed in the base of the pan. The glass around the heated cooking zone stays virtually cold, so no energy is wasted. An induction stove uses up to 40% less energy compared to other heating methods.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

Induction hobs offer pan detection. How does this work?

Have you ever turned your stove on by accident or forgotten to turn off the heat? Now this not a problem any more. Pan detection ensures that the stove generates heat only when a pan is placed on the hob. A timer-controlled safety shut-off monitors each cooking zone and turns it off after a certain period. And if you have some aspiring junior chefs in your family, use the childproof lock to prevent accidents.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

Induction hobs offer a PowerPlus function. What is it for?

The PowerPlus function offered by almost all induction hobs helps you save time. If, for example, you need to heat up a large quantity of water, you can have a cooking zone work at an increased power level of up to 140%. PowerPlus puts up to 3700 watts at your disposal.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

The cooking zones are operated by innovative slider controls. How do they work?

This slider concept makes cooking even more fun: adjust the heat levels by sliding your finger over the controls.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

How does cooking with induction work?

Instead of the traditional heating element, an induction coil is placed beneath the glass ceramic hob, generating a varying electromagnetic field. The field generates eddy currents in the base of the pan, which leads to a rapid heating of the magnetic pan material.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

Is there a separate cooking zone for fish pans?

Fish pans can be used without difficulty on any cooking hob featuring a frying zone.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

What is the purpose of a hob with three cooking zones?

As steamers are becoming increasingly popular, we have found that people tend to use fewer pots and pans in their cooking. This is why we have introduced hobs featuring only three cooking zones that are more generously spaced.
    • Commissioning and operation

What are the different installation options for hobs?

Hobs that are fitted flush with the worktop achieve perfect aesthetic integration and create the impression of compact simplicity. Hobs with a set-off glass frame (bevel-edged) have a very elegant appearance, while chromium steel frames and over-large frames (for replacements) convince by their simplicity of installation and their classic design, they fit in a wide variety of kitchen combinations.
    • Commissioning and operation

Do I need to use special pans with an induction appliance? Are they expensive?

For induction to work, the base of the pan must be ferromagnetic. As induction hobs are quite popular, there is a broad range of available well-priced pans.

    • Commissioning and operation

Are my pans suitable for use with an induction appliance?

Use a magnet to test whether your pans can be used with an induction hob. If the magnet sticks to the base of your pan, you're ready to go, otherwise, the pan will not work with an induction hob.

    • Commissioning and operation

Are there hob models with an automatic safety shut-off?

Yes, all V-ZUG induction and autarkic radiant hobs are fitted with an automatic safety shut-off that prevents overheating.

What does it take to make a good cup of coffee?

In addition to the quality of the beans and the blend, the correct grinding technique is especially important: the more evenly the coffee is ground and dosed, the better the end result. This is where the CoffeeCenter V6000 45 comes in with its innovative new cone grinder that conjures up an aroma intensity unlike anything you have ever experienced before. The perfect temperature and pressure during the brewing process are also crucial when it comes to how the coffee will taste. From ristretto, espresso, espresso macchiato, doppio, cappuccino, flat white, caffè latte and latte macchiato to the latest trends like long coffee, the CoffeeCenter V6000 45 provides the perfectly brewed cup of coffee to suit anyone’s tastes. The integrated milk frother automatically prepares three different levels of froth, depending on whether you are making cappuccino, latte macchiato or caffè latte. The heated milk container is double-walled and keeps the milk fresh for a long time.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

Why is the grinding so important for a perfect cup of coffee?

Apart from the quality of the coffee beans and the blend, the right grinding technique is crucial. The more evenly the coffee is ground and dosed, the better the result. The highly innovative new ceramic grinder of the Supremo SL meets these requirements and is extremely durable. And it has another great benefit: it is very quiet.

How important is it for the range hood to cover the entire hob surface?

The more the range hood covers the hob, the better the extraction performance. This is why flat pull-out deflector plates perform very well. For wall and island hoods, you should make sure that the majority of the hob is well covered.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

What is the difference between an extracted air and a recirculation air range hood?

Extracted air range hoods require access to the outdoors. They convey cooking vapours directly outside into the open air via the metal grease filter. In a recirculation air range hood, the air is drawn in, cleaned using an activated charcoal filter and then conveyed back into the kitchen. This option is particularly suitable if there is no way to convey the cooking vapours from the range hood in your kitchen to the outside. Virtually all V-ZUG range hoods can be operated with either extracted air or recirculation air.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

What types of range hoods are there?

There are different solutions to suit you – whether you want your range hood to be an eye-catching design feature or for it to be discreetly integrated into your kitchen. On the wall If you want to make your range hood stand out, then a wall hood is a great choice. Wall hoods are also available as slanted versions which provide ample headroom. They are installed on the wall directly above the hob. Integrated into the kitchen units If you would rather incorporate the hood into the kitchen so that it is virtually invisible, then we recommend a built-in range hood with a glass canopy, a flat-panel range hood or an integrated range hood. These are perfect for kitchens in which you need to make clever use of the space. On the ceiling Range hoods designed for ceiling installation are the perfect solution in open-plan kitchens that feature a free-standing cooking island. Choose your favourites from our elegant ceiling range hoods and our wide range of attractive island hoods. Downdraft or in the hob itself Without long detours, cooking vapours are whisked away at the very place where they first develop – on the hob itself. Our integrated hob hood, the pull-out downdraft and the induction hob with integrated range hood offer increased headroom and extract the vapours downwards.

    • Commissioning and operation

Is there not a risk of burning yourself on the door front?

All appliances are guaranteed to have low external door temperatures. In the case of normal ovens and steamers, a triple-layer glass door ensures safe operation while cooking. Pyrolytic self-cleaning ovens actually have a four-layer glass door concept. Thanks to the innovative door concept in the Advanced and Excellence Line, the door is ventilated with air from the room, thereby keeping the temperature of the outer door lower than it is for the standard models. What’s more, active appliance door ventilation also enables lower outer door temperatures for pyrolytic self-cleaning appliances.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

What is the difference between an oven and a cooker?

    • Commissioning and operation

Should I leave the windows and doors open or closed when using the range hood?

Range hoods need enough replacement air to guarantee optimum extraction performance. You can ensure this by opening a window or incorporating a replacement air unit. If there is insufficient replacement air, this can create negative pressure (a vacuum) – the range hood will become significantly louder and it will have difficulty conveying the cooking odours outside.

    • Commissioning and operation

Do I need to air the room when I use my range hood?

You should always ensure there is a supply of replacement air when the range hood is running. In the case of a recirculation air range hood, this enables air that is still moist after passing through the filters to be replaced. In extracted air solutions, an open window helps to optimise the air flow and prevents negative pressure building up in the kitchen.

    • Commissioning and operation

Can I switch off/suppress the automatic light activation if I don’t really need a light above the cooking area?

For safety reasons, we recommend that the cooking area is always well lit.

The screen must always be pulled out to ensure the range hood can work at its best.

    • Commissioning and operation

Can I adjust the reaction times for the hob and range hood in OptiLink operating mode?

Three levels are available in OptiLink mode that vary in terms of their reaction times and the maximum possible power level. Level 1: Silent mode – reaction time 60 seconds and maximum power level 2 Level 2: Standard mode – reaction time 45 seconds and maximum power level 3 Level 3: Intensive mode – reaction time 20 seconds and maximum power level Intensive You can easily select whichever operating mode you want. When the appliance is switched off, press the "Light" and "Automatic run-on" buttons at the same time. The operating mode that is currently selected will be shown on the power level display. You can change the operating mode by pressing the power button. The selected setting will be saved 5 seconds after the last input.

    • Maintenance and Cleaning

Can you clean the metal grease filters in the dishwasher?

All metal grease filters should be cleaned at least once every two months (more frequently in the event of intensive use, and at the latest when the noise increases). Range hoods with saturation indicators on the display remind you to clean them regularly. You can soak the metal grease filter by hand and clean it with gentle detergent. It can, of course, also be cleaned in the dishwasher – simply choose an intensive programme. If you choose to wash the filter in the dishwasher, do not place any other crockery in the dishwasher.
    • Maintenance and Cleaning

What is the metal grease filter saturation indicator?

Some range hoods are equipped with a warning light that shows you when the metal grease filter needs to be cleaned. The operating hours counter can be used to roughly estimate whether the metal grease filter is full or not.

    • Commissioning and operation

Can I put all dishes in the dishwasher?

We recommend the following: Not all dishes are suitable for cleaning in a dishwasher. - Wash items made of wood or plastic that are sensitive to alkalis or heat by hand. - Earthenware tends to crack and splinter. - Glass and porcelain prints are only resistant to a limited extent and may dissolve over time. - Glass can become cloudy depending on the type and the detergent used. Check with your glass supplier whether the glass is dishwasher-safe. - Tension may develop in polished and thick-walled crystal glasses and bowls, which may lead to breakages. - Do not wash dishes with stickers. Dissolved stickers can block the filter system. - Objects made of silver, copper and tin tend to stain brown or black. - Aluminium tends to form stains. Wash aluminium separately or by hand.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

What actions can I take to prevent undesirable odours?

To make sure the range hood works as effectively as possible, switch it on three to five minutes before you start cooking. This allows an air flow to be established in the room so that vapours and odours can be conducted away quickly. To prevent the build-up of negative pressure and support the extraction of cooking odours, fresh air must be supplied at the same time. As a result, the following rules apply: always open a window when using air extraction solutions. Once you have finished cooking, keep the fan running for another five to ten minutes. Many range hoods have an automatic run-on function for this purpose. In particular, frying pans should be left under the range hood if they are still hot because they can still disperse odours even after you have finished cooking.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

What is the automatic run-on function?

Hoods with the automatic run-on function extract the remaining cooking vapours from the room for a specific time period (between 5 and 20 minutes) even after you have finished cooking and switched off the range hood. After that point, the range hood is switched off automatically. If the appliance is being used in recirculation mode, the activated charcoal filter can also carry out final drying of the furniture base – just like in range hoods that remove vapours by extracting them downwards (downdraft systems). This useful function is integrated into various range hoods and downdraft systems, and is activated by tapping the clock button shown at the end of the cooking process.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

What should I bear in mind when planning and installing an exhaust duct?

The exhaust duct should be as short as possible and have as few bends and curves as possible. Ideally, it should have a diameter of 150 mm. Each additional metre added to the exhaust duct and each additional bend will create resistance, reducing the power of the range hood. A more powerful range hood cannot compensate for a poorly designed exhaust duct. This will only result in increased losses and noise levels. Reducing the diameter of the exhaust duct should be avoided where possible – due to the increased flow rate, this will also lead to increased noise levels.
    • Maintenance and Cleaning

    What is V-ZUG TopClean?

This is the most high-tech solution of all the cleaning aids. The specially developed enamel coating makes cleaning the cooking chamber or baking trays even easier. Its excellent non-stick properties allow all residue to be removed simply and effortlessly with a damp cloth.

    • Maintenance and Cleaning

    How does pyrolytic self-cleaning work?

Ovens with pyrolytic features practically clean themselves: Dirt is converted into ash by the special pyrolytic self-cleaning programme, which heats the cooking chamber to extremely high temperatures. The ash can then be wiped away with a damp cloth. Pyrolytic self-cleaning is available as an option in all appliances in convenience level V4000 or above.

    • Commissioning and operation

Are appliances with AutoDoor a safety risk for unsupervised children?

No. If the appliance door reaches its stopping point or encounters resistance, movement is stopped. The appliance door is uncoupled from the drive at a certain angle and can be moved freely. If an appliance door with AutoDoor is stopped manually, you must press the button again or close the appliance door manually to reset it.

    • Commissioning and operation

How do I open the door of an AutoDoor appliance in the event of a power cut?

The appliance door can always be opened by hand or by using a wooden spoon. The best way to do this is to hold the corners of the glass front and open the door by hand.

    • Functions, tips and tricks

Is it possible to use an extracted air or a recirculation air solution in conjunction with the Fusion hob with integrated range hood?

Yes it is – the unit can be installed with either an extracted air or a recirculation air solution.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

Which range hoods are particularly quiet?

The level of noise emitted by a range hood depends on the model and extracted air system chosen. In the case of extracted air range hoods, the following rule applies: the smaller the diameter of the exhaust duct, the louder the appliance. As a result, we recommend using a pipe diameter of 150 mm in extracted air mode.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

Is it a good idea to install a sound absorber with a wall/island hood or built-in range hood?

Yes, we would definitely recommend installing a sound absorber to reduce the overall noise emissions. In extracted air mode, both the fan noise going outside and the outdoor noise coming inside via the extracted air duct can be reduced. In the case of recirculation mode, the sound absorber is positioned directly on the fan nozzle in the hood flue.
    • Functions, tips and tricks

Does the hob ventilation/hob hood ventilation also work with taller pots?

Cooking vapours can be extracted without any problems in the case of pots up to 20 cm tall. For pots that are over 21 cm tall, we recommend placing the pot lid at an angle in order to direct the steam towards the range hood.

What do I need to consider with regard to the exhaust duct?

If possible, you should make sure that the duct diameter is at least 125 mm and ideally 150 mm. If there is no room for a round pipe, a flat channel with an equivalent cross section may also be used. The use of 90° pipe bends should be kept to a minimum. Narrowing cross sections and reducing pipes with a smooth inner surface should also be avoided. We recommend using short piping lengths, wall boxes with large slats and sufficient replacement air.

What do I need to know about range hoods using recirculation air?

Compared with the extracted air solution, there is much less to consider for range hoods with recirculation air, particularly if you have chimney-based heating (such as gas, oil or coal-fired heaters, flow heaters, water heaters and open fireplaces). They are easy to install and they can be operated without restrictions if the range hood is used in recirculation mode with an activated charcoal filter. To use recirculation mode, you must provide an activated charcoal filter – the filter absorbs unpleasant odours and ensures there is fresh air in the kitchen while you are cooking.

Hobs and range hoods that feature the OptiLink function communicate with each other via Bluetooth. The fan level automatically adjusts to the current cooking level and switches off automatically when the hob is switched off – so you can focus all your attention on cooking without having to think about operating the range hood. What are the advantages of having a steamer?

A steamer allows for gentle steam cooking that does not wash out valuable vitamins, minerals and flavours from your food.
