A contemporary way of living in historic Shanghai

Jinling Road is a pioneering masterplan project in the centre of Shanghai, a contemporary development conceived in dialogue with the city’s historical fabric. Rather than imposing a new identity, the project builds on the logic of the existing shikumen typology, preserving the fine grain of a district that has been a key commercial hub for over two centuries.

Jinling Residences adapt the complexity of the Jinling Road masterplan to a domestic scale. The interiors are conceived as open-plan environments, where living room, dining area, and kitchen merge into a single spatial sequence. Large openings extend the interiors towards the skyline, while daily life shapes the space over time.

In the kitchen, this approach takes the form of an essential composition, where materials and volumes are reduced to what is necessary. Here, simplicity is not an aesthetic gesture but a way to support everyday living. A selection of V-ZUG appliances, including cooktops, ovens, and a range hood, integrates seamlessly into the architecture.

Gas cooktops (GAS311GKBZ and GAS321GKBZ) are combined with the V-ZUG Cooktop V4000 and DWPQ range hood, reflecting a balance between different cooking cultures and habits. Their configuration supports a flexible use of the kitchen, responding to both local culinary traditions and contemporary practices.

The CombiSteamer V4000 and Combair V2000 are integrated into the wooden cabinetry. Mirror glass surfaces and clean geometries align with the overall language of the space, contributing to a sense of order and material continuity.
