Sustainability

We see it as a driving force in the development of our products, the services we provide, how we manufacture and contribute to a future-fit society.

  • People

Our commitment to our people and area is paramount and constantly invested in. The well-being of employees, customers and society at large is a driving force for the ambitious changes we’re pursuing.

  • Planet

We make highly sustainable appliances, as efficiently as possible. We are tightening the circular economy and have been carbon neutral in production since 2020, preferring to achieve first and talk about it second.

  • Profit

Our success is built upon quality, design and durability. These values are also reflected in the projects we undertake. They are not geared towards short-term profit maximisation, but rather towards safeguarding the future of our company for generations to come.

Circular economy

For us, a sustainable product begins with its development. It is at this early stage that we can have the most influence on its ‘lifelong’ sustainability. We focus on elements including the durability and repairability of the appliances, low energy and water consumption in use, material choice and a modular design to enhance circularity.

We are responsible for our products - and this throughout their entire life cycle. We know the upstream value chain and audit our suppliers regularly - also with regard to selected sustainability criteria. We show our customers how they can use their equipment in a resource-conserving way and we take responsibility for optimal and environmentally friendly disposal or recycling.

Our journey to a more sustainable tomorrow

For us, sustainability is not just a commitment to climate protection. It is the heartbeat of our product development, our services and the way we work together. Find out how we incorporate sustainability into every aspect of our journey towards a better and more conscious future.

Our sustainability strategy

Our production facilities have been carbon neutral since 2020, through a combination of careful design, new facilities, efficiencies and offsetting. The strategy will continue with the use of a number of initiatives such as our internal CO2 levy, which funds carbon-reducing projects.

Carbon neutral production since 2020*

How do you become carbon neutral? We source an ever-increasing proportion of our electricity from renewable resources, invest in new, more efficient production lines and buildings, and our V-Forest reforestation programme offsets any residual emissions.  V-ZUG owners can also contribute to carbon neutrality at home by compensating emissions generated during appliance use.

*V-ZUG has been carbon-neutral at all of its production sites since 2020 after introducing a range of measures to reduce emissions and compensate for its CO2 output through the “V-Forest” reforestation project (high-quality removal certificates). This includes direct emissions from Scope 1 (combustibles, fuels, etc.), indirect emissions from Scope 2 (the purchase of electricity and district heating), and business flights from Scope 3. These scopes are in alignment with the definitions laid out in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The term “carbon neutrality” corresponds to the definition laid out in the glossary published by the IPCC.

A key component of the climate strategy is the internal, voluntary CO2 incentive tax, which has been in force since 2018 (CHF 120 per ton of CO₂) on the scopes described above. The effect of this incentive tax is ongoing. Ambitious targets to reduce the remaining emissions have been in place since 2020. Measures are being taken on a continuous basis, and their status is reported annually.

Detailed information is available in the annual Climate Report.
